How To Install CFW 5.50 Gen-A

Well, I hope you saw the warning above. If you own a 3000 PSP (brite) or a 2000 PSP (lite) with a TA088v3 motherboard you should NOT use this method. If you have one of these models you should install Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-C for HEN. Take a look at the next pages to get you started :
How to determine the type of your psp
AAA
Requirements:
- a PSP fat or a PSP lite (non TA088v3 !!) with custom firmware 3.52 M33-3 or higher. If you don't have custom firmware yet, go to:
AAA - a battery (78% full or more !!)
- the 5.50 GEN-A files
- all plugins disabled (yes, I said ALL !). To learn how to disable these go to:
AAA - a backup of your Memory Stick (savefiles, music, video etc…)
Let's go to work!
- Connect your PSP to your computer and go to Settings >> USB Connection
- Open Windows Explorer and check the letter of your PSP (here i'll use the letter X)
- Unzip the 5.50 GEN-A files to the root of your PSP's Memory Stick (try 7-zip for a change). This means to X:/
- Quit the USB connection on you PSP
- On your PSP go to Game >> Memory Stick >> Update PSP ver. x.xx and press X

- Your PSP will start to do some checking. After that you can press X again and the update will start.
- It looks like your PSP is doing an official update of your firmware, but be assured it is a custom firmware. You should see the text PSP System Software 5.50. Press Start.
- Now press Left on your D-pad to scroll through the small print. Accept the User Agreement.
- A few hits on your D-Pad. Once more : press X. Wait a few minutes till you reach 100%.
- If your PSP asks you to press X to restart DO SO! If you skip this step you won't be able to use the cfw !
- Et voilà! You enter the world of custom firmware.
