How To Install POPSloader for 5.50GEN
By installing POPSloader on your psp you enable your beauty to play those old PSX classics. So FFVII, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil,… Here we come!
Some history
POPS stands for Playstation One Portable Station. It came with the official 3.00 firmware by Sony (Japan only). Its purpose is to emulate Playstation One (= PS1 = PSX) on your PSP. These PSX games are sold in the Playstation Store. But if you own some PSX titles yourself (remember Final Fantasy VII ?), POPS wan’t ment for you. You couldn’t go round the Playstation Store.
Every official firmware had its own POPS. So there are many versions of POPS out there. But the problem is that not every game works with the latest POPS. Some games work fine in POPS 3.71 but won’t work with POPS 3.90 and so on. For those difficult games POPSloader is a solution!
POPSloader was develloped by Dark Alex and it allows you to choose which POPS version you want to use. And last but not least: you can use your own PSX games!

How To Convert PSX Games To Your PSP
Requirements:
- A PSP with cfw 5.50GEN or above
- The POPSloader for 5.50GEN
- POPSloader extractor v0.2
- The Official firmwares
Let’s go to work !
- Connect your PSP to your PC
- Enable the USB Connection (Settings >> USB Connection)
- Open Windows explorer and notice what letter your PSP is (here I’ll use the letter X)
- Unzip the POPSloader folder.
- On your your PSP : copy the content you just unzipped to the root of your PSP (X:/)
This creates (overwrites) two new folders on your PSP : x:/SEPLUGINS and inside the SEPLUGINS folder : POPSLOADER - Now install the POPSloader Extractor v0.2 on your PSP by unzipping the file. You should see something like this:

- Then put the popsext folder in X:/PSP/GAME so you get X:/PSP/GAME/popsext
- Navigate to X:/seplugins/ on your PC
There you should find the file POPS.txt. Open it with Notepad and add next line of code and save.
ms0:/SEPLUGINS/popsloader.prx - If the POPS.txt file isn’t there you need to create one. Open a new file in Notepad and copy/paste the above line of code. If POPS.txt already exists then you ADD this line of code to the existing one(s)
Save as POPS.txt and copy the file to X:/seplugins/ - Download these official EBOOTS: 3.00, 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, 3.10, 3.11, 3.30, 3.40, 3.51, 3.52, 3.71, 3.72, 3.80, 3.90, 4.01, 5.00, 5.50, 6.10
- Put them in a seperate folder on your PC named EBOOTS/300, EBOOTS/301 and so on (or something you can easily remember)

- You only need the EBOOTS that are necessary for your situation. But downloading them all can’t hurt. But you definitely need the 4.01 EBOOT!
- You'll notice that every file has the same name : EBOOT.PBP. Change the name accordingly to the firmware you downloaded. This means that the EBOOT file for firmware 3.00 must be renamed to 300.PBP, the EBOOT file for 3.01 must be renamed to 301.PBP etc…
(Some websites already renamed the EBOOT files for you) - Once you renamed all your EBOOTs, you can put them in the root of your PSPs Memory Stick : X:/
- By now the directory structure of your PSP should be like this:

- Now it's time for POPSloader Extractor to do all the dirty work.
- On your PSP navigate to GAME >> Memory Stick >> Popsloader Extractor v0.2 and press X
- The extractor creates all files necessary and quits automatically.
- Restart your PSP while HOLDING the R1 button to enter the recovery menu

- Select Plugins and make sure popsloader.prx is enabled.
- Exit the recovery menu
How to use it?
- On your PSP, navigate to your PSX game and launch it by pressing X
- The POPSloader menu will appear. Select ORIGINAL FROM FLASH. It this didn't work try again but now holding down the right shoulder button when you press X to start the game. The menu should reappear now.
- Go up in the list until you found the firmware that works. Once you found the right firmware, your psp will remember your choise. How convenient!

Dear calsijnm,
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this more than amazing toturial. It’s direct, easy and extremly up to the point. You’ve provided us with links in the right places, didn’t use hard vocabs and you were very clear.
I’ve looked at MANY toturials but I either felt confused or stupid.
From a total noob like me, thank you sir.
thank you very much, great job! I would also like to tell you that from the link for the eboots…… the 3.02 eboot is missing
THANK YOU so much for this guide. It’s much faster to use the popsloader extractor than to do it all manually.
FYI for any missing OFW EBOOT files in the link from the guide, you can use this list as an alternative download site: http://psp.dashhacks.com/category/36
